The Decemberists have released a video for the single 'This is Why We Fight' and I am here to tell you this is why they shouldn't have released a video for any of their songs, ever.
The joy of the Decemberists is the haunt of Melloys voice and the days gone by feel of the instruments. Of all the cappuccino bands on Earth there is none I respect a thimbleful close to the Decemberist.
Prior to "The King Is Dead", I would have severed an artery to see them live or to hear them speak or to read their words. Brilliant, thought provoking, genius.
I anxiously awaited 'King' was sorely disappointed in the direction but hell EVERY band has a shit album and The Decemberists had never had one. It was their turn, I forgive, I lay low, I wait for the next one. Simple. Maybe in a shaking Decemberists withdrawal I can revisit "The King Is Dead" and like it, but today is not the day.
I doubt the day will come when I will watch in entirety a video for the band that is not concert footage. My mind does a great job at making up visuals for the story telling. This wide eyed child Mad Max third world hodge podge from hell.. just made me hate the album a little more.
I don't know why, I don't know the point. I don't know what UNICEF grand plan went in on this one but it sucks. I'm not moved, its more like a United Colors of Benneton ad than a peace corp mission. Google Benneton tell me I'm wrong- you cant. Wait no its Shaun Lennon as Harry Potter does Peter Pan.. I think.
The song doesn't suck half as bad as the rest of the album but I do have to burn out my retinas from this dumb ass 3 minutes.
Please no more- keep the music sacred.
