George Jones is the single greatest country singer and one of the top five pop singers of the 20th Century (I rank him second, after Sinatra). In an interview with Associated Press he had this to say about Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, “They’ve stolen our identity.” Strong, not particularly accurate, words. “They had to use something that was established already, and that’s traditional country music. So what they need to do really, I think, is find their own title, because they’re definitely not traditional country music.’
Jones does have some praise… “It’s good to know that we still do traditional country music. Alan Jackson still does it, so does George Strait. We still have it, and there’s quite a few of us that are going to hope that it comes back one of these days.”
I love Alan Jackson and George Strait but how can Jones, who knows a thing about great songwriting, put down Taylor Swift. I think he is letting his eyes hear the music instead of his ears. I’ll tell you one thing, fuck Kanye West, if she wants to be upset about anything, she should be devastated over this.
