The documentary explores those crazy 70’s when the pants were tight and the flares were huge. While fashion was a horror, music was fabulous. Quadrophenia was originally released in October of 1973, and this doc takes you there. Of course, it’s being heralded as ‘behind the scenes’. That expression seems to suggest an intimate view.
Founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are being joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), John Corey (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) Reggie Grisham (horns), JG Miller (horns) are there in their young’n glory and tis a pretty interesting snapshot into the old rock and roll world. Stripped down and far more cool than today’s work could ever be. The digital era has stripped us of the grit that made ‘classic rock’, classic!
This film is not only live footage and behind the scene recording but also images of culture that made Quadrophenia the classic it’s become. Footage with multiple screens of world events ranging from WW2 through today, a flashy gif sort of thing. themes of disillusionment, teen angst and rebellion, plus social issues. This of course delivered by (now) 70 year old deaf men.
Leave it to those crazy kids at BBC America to provide us such quality entertainment and if you’re listening, we’d like a Skins first season reunion and more Inbetweeners please. Thanks.
