The Wakarusa Music Festival, a four-day event held in early June at Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas, has a great 2012 line-up.
Since its 2004 beginning, the festival has grown exponentially, featuring artists like The Flaming Lips, Wilco, The Black Keys, Ben Folds, Ben Harper, My Morning Jacket and many others. ![]()
This year, The Avett Brothers and Slightly Stoopid are headlining, but Matisyahu, Ghostland Observatory and 112 other artists are also playing! Something to keep you very busy for four days.
Especially, don’t miss these three artists that I have seen live, and that are worth the ticket price by themselves:
Fronted by Christ-figure Alex Ebert, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will bring their hippie-Woodstock vibe with their Laurel Canyon music. Seeing them live is a celebration of life, which can turn a little too mushy at times (yeah this is a love feast!), but it sure will make you happy if you still can feel your feet after all that jumping and bouncing.
Fitz and the Tantrums are a must-see live, vocalists Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs are balls of explosive energy while the horns-saxo-organ formula works very well for their retro-soul-revival turned modern-cool. And they know how to put up a sweaty dance party.
Then go see Tinariwen to rest a little bit, these Tuareg desert foxes will hypnotize you with their rhythmic acoustic guitars combining afrobeat genres, while transporting you toward distant horizons.
