It is painful to watch this video. Two guys who seem so incredibly uncomfortable and shy that they bumble and sputter to the courtesy laugh of the enamored girl near the camera. Why must they banter so awkwardly?
Recorded at Bearded Lady Records in Flint, MI the duo belt out "The Best I Ever Had" while pressed up against a record bin. Stripped down to drum and acoustic guitar they take on a rock tune and pretty much kill it. I don't mean in a good way either. The Swellers are swell, don't get me wrong but the discomfort of this environment totally stripped them of their swagger. I suppose that's the whole idea of the 'unplugged' gimmick.
This is really a poor representation of the band. They appear as two pathetic AV nerds, and they are far from that. Hey we all drop the ball now and then and from that annoying fake nervous laugh of the girl in the audience we know that someone was having a good time. WHY though, do all these bands jump in to Carly Rae Jepsons "Call Me Maybe"?? I can tell you, its cuz the teenage girls are able to sing along to it. It used to be "Party In the USA", but now its "Call Me"…. its a cheap trick for attention, sorta like screaming out 'how ya doin' New York Cittyyyyyyyyyy'
I cant grade this or they would end up in summers school. But hey, the 10 people in attendance dug it and I wish we had a record shop around her that had bands doing instores.
