The Silver Lake Chorus, the chorale band who has promised us a full-length release for this year, is having a show this Friday, May 24th at the Bootleg theater in Los Angeles, and you should go.
Remember, this is the 25-member group that regularly gives us a capella covers of famous songs, coming from all over the indie spectrum in beyond, with choral arrangements and layered vocals. They can go from Beck to Muse, from Regina Spektor to Phoenix with the same conviction and have been described as the hipster answer to Glee, although they are more Polyphonic Spree than mainstream Fox TV comedy drama.
Their forthcoming album, produced by Australian Ben Lee, will feature original songs written exclusively for the chorus by Sia, Aimee Mann, Beck, Of Montréal, The Bird and the Bee, Tegan and Sara, and will follow their previous release, an EP called ‘Wreckage’ including two songs penned by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and New Pornographer A.C. Newman.
On Friday, the chorus will premiere new music , including a song of their upcoming album, ‘Nervous Soul’ written by Ben Gibbard of Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie fame.
You can watch a few minutes of this song rehearsal below, and enjoy all these beautiful voices merging together for this catchy and ethereal track,… I have to say that every song sounds a little more ethereal with the Silver Lake Chorus’ treatment.
