There were some rumors about a secret show on Monday night, and effectively, the Shins did a set of 7 brand new songs at Largo! Yes, the Shins, or rather the new Shins, as apparently James Mercer is the only one left from the original line-up. It was a by-invite-only show unfortunately and very few people got the privilege to get into the small theater.
It was a sort of preview of their upcoming album on Columbia Records, and Jessica Dobson was reported to be the new guitarist (she is a singer songwriter and was Beck’s guitarist a few years ago)
Aimee Mann was waiting in line to get in, and it should not be a surprise as she practically lives at Largo. But she is also working on a new album (which should be out around March), and she tweeted about a collaboration with James Mercer:
‘Last day of recording for my new record! Today I am doing a duet with the great James Mercer of the fantastic Shins and I AM SO EXCITED.’
We are too Aimee!
Not a lot has filtered from last night concert, as Largo prohibits pictures. I just found a grainy black and white one.
Meanwhile, we are stuck watching the Shins perform ‘Sleeping Lessons’ at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco last August:
