I don’t play video games, so there is no way I could have stumbled on this, if it were not because of music blogs mentioning it: The Shins have released a video on Nintendo for their song ‘The Rifle’s Spiral’ off their new album ‘Port of Morrow’.
The 3D animation mini-movie, directed by Jamie Caliri, has been available since April 6, but since it is a Nintendo video exclusivity, sorry, only a teaser of 43 seconds can be watched on YouTube.
I will probably not be the only one thinking about Tim Burton and his dark animated universe with weird wood-puppet characters when watching it. There is also a cute rabbit, not mentioned in this song (which I thought was about a subway/car bomber), but I have noticed that the rabbit character regularly visits James Mercer’s songs: ‘Red Rabbits’ (Out of a gunnysack fall red rabbits’), ‘Turn on Me’, (‘Rabbit, run, run, run’), ‘Girl on the wing’ (‘the tidal rabbit who came of age before her time’), and, can you believe it, even in his cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Breathe/Breathe’ (Run, Rabbit, run’) which could well explain all the previous ones?
I know what you are gonna say, that the Shins have sold out, and are probably getting easy money from this. But at least, this is very creative, and they are not selling a car or some phone service.
