The Royalty “Bartender”Video, Reviewed

Indie-rock phenomenon, The Royalty, have struck gold once more with their fantastic music video for the terrific song “Bartender”. The song has an odd fun sound which feels like the perfect collision of classic rock and indie rock sounds. It’s the kind of song you can imagine yourself dancing around your bedroom too, singing into an imaginary microphone.  “Bartender” is off The Royalty’s latest album Lover which was released on May 8th.

In the video for “Bartender”, it looks like The Royalty had more fun performing the song than anyone could imagine. Their energy was beyond that of most indie rock bands I’ve seen. As the song got more and more energetic, vocalist Nicole Boudreau was the very embodiment of having a good time. While soulfully crooning through amazing instrumental melodies and harmonies in a way that would make history’s most impressive soul singers proud, Nicole shows you everything you need to know about her, the band, and the song.

The best part about the video for “Bartender” is that it showcases the entire band and gives a visual aid to the exceptional skill that can easily be heard in the song. It’s easy for a video to showcase the lead singer’s talent and charm but often the instrumentalists get a little lost in the video.  This was not at all the case with “Bartender”.

In many parts of the video, a section of melody that stands out or a drum solo that intensifies the song would be emphasized by that instrument and that band member being the only thing in focus for a few seconds. At one point in the middle of each verse, a particular keyboard melody is the focus, so in the music video, we’re able to see Daniel Marin working his magic at the keys.

The same is true for the beginnings of verses when we’re able to see how enveloped in the music drummer Joel Quintana becomes. Whether it’s the soul of Nicole Boudreau or the talent and heart of the instrumentalists, this video has a fantastic way of showing off The Royalty for the astonishingly awesome band that they are
