The Media Are Blaming German Metal Band Rammstein For The School Shooting In Baltimore

The NY Daily News has some serious accusation regarding the shooting (yes, another one unfortunately) which happened on the first day of school in Baltimore: A 15-year-old student opened fire in the cafeteria, but was stopped by a counselor after shooting one classmate (now hospitalized in critical condition) and wounding another one. The newspaper is reporting that the teenager was obsessed with the German metal band Rammstein, and the Manson family,,…

oh no! Here we go again, blaming the act of some deranged individual on music! They based this hasty conclusion on the content of the guy’s (Bobby Gladden) Facebook page, but we have read this so many times before! Are we back to Marilyn Manson responsible for the shooting in Columbine? This is what the rock star said in the Michael Moore documentary about the event:

‘I definitely can see why they would pick me. Because I think it's easy to throw my face on the TV, because in the end, I'm a poster boy for fear. Because I represent what everyone is afraid of, because I say and do whatever I want.’

I am not sure it is still the case, Manson has so mellowed down these days, but he was right then, it is just so easy to blame the goth guy, and to find a black and white reason to explain terrible things like these. Now Rammstein is associated with this tragedy and it is really unfair. On his Facebook page, Bobby Gladden, other metal bands are actually listed: Slipknot, Slayer Motorhead, We Came As Romans, and even Manson, are among his favorites but above all, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the two Columbine killers, are among his ‘inspirational people’,… so there was obviously a bigger problem than liking black clothes and listening to metal. And I don’t know why it is always the music that people blame and not violent movies, strange isn’t it? Especially after this Dark Knight shooting which happened about a month ago,… may be this is another proof of the power of music?

But it will never change, why are the media always blaming the bands and never the politicians who let kids having guns?
