These 3 guys seemed so happy, filling Vacation Vinyl of joyous chatting with friendly people already there, the Manx, as they called themselves, looks like a carefree-exuberant band of festive pirates who have forsaken their ship to have a party on land.
The three of them (but according to their facebook page there are actually four of them) had an in-store at Vacation Vinyl on Friday night, and the unusual combination of instruments, up-right bass, played by Adam Barnes, accordion, played by Myke Chilian and banjo, played by Tommy Meehan, immediately set the tone of their mood-boosting performance.
Their sort of buoyant punk-folk style obviously reminded me the Pogues, with a bit of that famous Eugene-Hütz delivery, three voices singing in canon, showing as much liveliness as possible during their imaginary folklore. They were playing acoustic, nothing was plugged in, it was just the impressive cheerfulness of the instruments mixed with their shouted chants, most of the songs starting slowly before embarking into a few devilish-foot-tapping fast races and slowing down again like well-oiled machines.
They were celebrating the release of their 3-way split 10" vinyl, with DJ Embryonic Petit SAC and Razzle Blaster, and were a lot of fun, playing their songs with a full enthusiasm and an energy that were firing up the atmosphere, already overwhelmingly torrid due to the current heat wave.
