Parades are symbolic of celebration. Macys took it and made an 85 year old tradition and set a new standard for grand promenade. Tons of enormous floats and zillions of people make this an event every person should see once.
But not while I am there.
I hate crowds and people annoy me so jam me into a crowd of sniveling kids and its a recipe for homicide. This year was best of all as I became separated with no money, no credit card, no gloves and a half dead cell phone. Yup.. best parade EVER.
Not only did I not have to deal with the crowds (I was smack dab at Columbus and 80th for the most part, 1 block in the wrong direction of the mayhem), but I got to hear the announcers introduce each act into the parade.
Its laughable to begin with. It would have been better to have seen any of it but all I saw is what's above. Best part? I asked a complete stranger to email me this picture since my camera phone is also dead.
That my friends, is diligence.
Last year I saw Kanye, fresh off his Today show faux pas, this year I saw inflatable Kermits ass. Coincidence? Not sure. Music? I didn't hear much aside from a distant bass drum and the announcer shouting "Legendary Neil Diamond", 'Mary J Bliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiige", 'Cee Lo Greeeeeeeeeeeeen'…"American Idol Scotty Mcreeeeeeeeeeeeerrryyyyyyyy", yeah thats bout it. Oh but I heard the sound of the city. The music of ambulances and police whistles and laughing people and foreign tongue and well…
it was really much better than most years.
