Take four suburban London boys throw them in Greece add some girls and its party time. As a huge fan of the British series The Inbetweeners I thought nothing at all of driving in a severe rainstorm (with hail!) to get to Boston to see it on opening weekend. Including my group of three we the theater contained 22 people. Smack dab in the middle of the MIT campus you'd think there would be a nerd invasion- such was not the case.
It's a shame. The boys go on holiday with grand intentions and in the interim hit numerous obstacles and freaks and typical 'coming of age' mishaps. If you are not a fan or unfamiliar with the series, I suggest you pass on the film. There is nothing that helps you get to know the characters and it is vital to know them in order to 'get' the gags.
There were numerous laugh out loud moments, the most popular I suppose will be the dance scene. The characters remain true throughout although the semi fight between Jay and Simon seemed rather lame, luckily it didn't last long.
I do have to say allot of the jokes were recycled. We can only laugh at Will's interactions with the handicapped so much. The series had him on a roller coaster, the movie at poolside. That gag doesn't have enough power to be used twice.
Somehow Neil became a stud with the older ladies and the dance floor fingering nearly cause me to wretch. For the record I think there were four full frontal penis views yet interestingly not one naked girl. Hmm..odd.
Jay of course showed his emotional side did a fabulous job being angry drunk and as for Simon. I hated him through the whole film. He needed a slap.
Hats off to the 'self fellatior', that's mad skill and also well don't to the random boy who shows up (I didn't catch his name) who's parents retrieve him from the party boat.
It was good, not great and I have no regrets for traveling to see it. I'm going to miss the series allot. I don't suggest a Part 2. Time to put this one to bed.
