When will we learn? When you’re screaming “Maggie is a Cunt’ or ‘Fuck The USA’ the adrenaline gets pumping and your 20 year old audience has an odd way of making you feel as if you’re their age- even if you’re nearing 60.
“Punks Not Dead” but it will be if the ego is bigger than the brain. On February 13th the newly married Walter (Wattie)Buchan had a heart attack right on stage. How punk is that! See there is a big difference from a Mick or a Sir Paul and a Wattie. Punks dont die but we age at double speed. In tempo with the music we enjoy and create we fall apart like cheap car speakers- overwhelmed by bass and drum.
But we are so stubborn and so ornery that we feel invincible. See we’re gonna fuck the system and we’re gonna get all Anarchy on your ass and we are are gonna flat out piss ourselves and have a heart attack on stage to prove it.
THE EXPLOITED have released the following statement: ”We are sorry to say that due to a severe illness that Wattie can’t continue with the tour. He will be in hospital for at least a week. Thanks for all the get-well messages. Much appreciated. Regards.”
Its a sad issue. Get well ol’ man there are tons more things to fight and things to say ‘fuck’ about and I am so with you that growing old is not an easy thing but we as a society have to take on sensei approach. Master punks teaching the young-lings, its just what has to be done. If they’re not trained properly the art will die along with us and the world will honestly think bands like All Time Low and Fall Out Boy were punk and that’s just blasphemy. It is the responsibility of every person who saw bands like The Ramones or The Clash or Television to preserve the integrity of the movement. Please stop thinking you can still be IN the movement- you cannot, you are too old.
Pick up a pen, search out a local band..open a studio and produce. Just dont put your baked arteries on a stage and expect to perform like you’re 18. Ain’t happening.
Wattie, get well soon…barmy army…
