Ahh those darling British boys The Cribs are celebrating a whoppnig 10 years in the business. Isnt that funny that ten years is epic these days? So many bands cant survive that ten years is a miracle.
In honor of the event theyre releasing 'Payola' – a career spanning compilation album on February 25th. In anticiaption they have just released the single "Leather Jacket Love Song" with former Smith Johnny Marr on guitar. This song is also the grande finale to Marrs affiliation with the band. Theyre back to a trio and thats fine, Marr is solo after an enternity of band hopping. Its like he finally get an apartment of his own!
Back to the tune- its pure Cribs. A simple pop tune with a really horrible keyboard. If they would just pull the cord on the Casio it would sound so much more legit. Right now it takes on a semi retro 60s pop sound. Yeah yeah, most of their stuff does but after 10 years can you at least try a new angle?
Vocally though (and lyrically) its pure bubblegum fun. You can claim to dislike the band all you want but lets be frank, shall we? You cant sit still listening to them. Theyre too poppy their too upbeat and they are too British to be background music. Theyre a party on a platter.
