We have been talking about this for months. The CBGB movie cannot be denied. We are going to be face to face with actors portraying our idols. We will critique it using our personal experiences with the musicians to dis this film within inches of existence. One thing is for certain- even if this film is a disaster, it will give all of us a bit of time to reflect and remember our own lives within that legendary club. Iman made it his second home- Sunday matinee’s were my territory We have lived decades of decay and mourned its loss and with the help of the cinema we can relive it with the critical eye of scenesters.
The film will be used to kick off this years CBGB Fest in New York City October 9-13th. We will be there and if you were there ‘back in the day’ or have the t-shirt and pretend you were, you should attempt to attend the fest. Its getting better and this years even features more music and more films depicting the coolest era of all time.
The soundtrack contains songs from Talking Heads, The Stooges, Dead Boys, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Television, Wayne County & the Electric Chairs, New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground, Johnny Thunder & the Heartbreakers, and more. Plus, there’s some live tracks, demos, and alternate versions of songs from other beloved bands like Blondie, MC5, The Dictators and more. The soundtrack will be out on October 8 via Omnivore Records physically and Rhino digitally. It’ a great sampler of the early punk days.
As much as I want to hate the exploitation of my former stomping ground, I cant… this is going to be a fabulous event.
