Do you want to see a movie about the Black Lips touring the Middle East? After naming their album 'Mountain Arabia', it would totally make sense.
Director Bill Cody is looking for $35,000 to finance a film which, according to his own words, will build a cultural bridge between a US musical act – and not any act, the wild and unruly Black Lips – and Lazzy Lung of Beirut, Lebanon (Esquire magazine's pic for best band in the Middle East and winner of Rolling Stone's Middle East Battle of the Bands), as well as other bands from Egypt, Dubai and Tunis.
Cody, who describes his project as the biggest one he has ever conceived of, explained why he wanted to do it so badly:
‘The reason this tour and film are SO IMPORTANT is that so many Americans have no understanding of the people who live in this important region. A region where 70% of the population is made up of men and women under 30 years old, a region where Late Night with David Letterman is a top rated show in several countries and a region where there is a thriving underground music scene.
We will be making stops in Beirut, Lebanon, Amman, Jordan, Cairo, Egypt, Dubai, Cyprus and Iraqi Kuridstan. Playing music, interacting with locals and building bridges between cultures. Bringing people together instead of pulling them apart. Peace and understanding.’
With this ‘music is our medicine’ mentality, he hopes to bring a better understanding of the region, which is ‘one of the most exciting places in the world right now’.
It looks like an awesome project, and the Black Lips are the perfect band which will undoubtedly raise for the occasion. So if you want to contribute to a film described as ‘A Hard Day’s Night meets Don’t Look Back’, just go here!
