Why on Earth did this news get me so angry! A collector and fan is offering up Joey Ramones record collection and personal items and personally I find it a horror.
Why would ANYONE auction the priceless tangibles of a punk rock icons life? Money. Its a great idea the guy will make a mint but the thought of Joey being a commodity really clocked me in the gut.
First up on the block his record collection. These are Joeys albums that inspired him, that he made toast while listening too and now some guy is selling it to finance a car or something. The record collection includes 97 pieces of vinyl up for sale, with titles from Led Zeppelin, the Who, T. Rex, Cream, Bob Dylan, Elton John, The Human League, Iggy Pop, KISS, the Doors, the Temptations, and the Ventures.
There’s a minimum bid of $500 attached to the record auction, which opens Feb. 14 and ends Feb. 21. Wait theres more though, how about Joeys personal Rolodex, described as “full of record companies, musicians, and agents,” and it includes business cards from Rock 'n' Roll High School producer Allan Arkush, Epitaph Records, EMI Records, Footlight Records, Geffen Records, and the artist’s personal Addicted to Noise card. Plus, some of his clothes, his GLASSES and even his passport… GAH so sad.
Imagine that Joeys brother is the one who authenticated the items including a pile of the guys t-shrits described as follows:
A collection of 140 t-shirts and four sweatshirts, all personally owned by Joey Ramone. Shirts are from various music groups, (including Motorhead, Nirvana, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and The Misfits), radio stations (including New York’s K-Rock), locations, and many others. In overall fine condition. Provenance: Joey Ramone Estate. Accompanied by a letter signed by Joey’s brother Mickey attesting to the collection’s authenticity. Good luck- scumbags http://www.rrauction.com/preview_gallery.cfm?Category=123 |
