The decision to catch the Allman Brothers at their Beacon Theater March madness run was a little random. Usually I catch em every other year but the 2013 gig was so great I figured I needed another shot to see if it was a fluke.
I hadn’t heard at the time that this was the last year the guitarists Warren Hayes and Derek Trucks would be playing them but if I had it would have sure been added incentive. Odd the way life works, I finally become a fan and the two guitarists go off one to Govt mule and the other to DTB and I prefer em both with the Allman Brothers.
Yeah, so after everything from hepatitis to rehab, the band is finally running full steam and the two guitarists so I guess that’s why Gregg decided to retire the name. “This is it – this is the end of it. 45 years is enough and I want to do something else, anyway.”
Though Gregg promises an occassional get together it will still really be sad to see March madness end ; after sufferring through Phish last year, this gifted boogier band looks greater every time I see em.
