That Was The Week That Was: Week Of June 22nd, 2015

US: The Supreme Court ruled gay marriage was legal and the world rejoiced though Canada enacted the same law ten years ago in 2005. Even so the world became a rainbow and freedom rang as the world became gay for a day, during Gay Pride Week.

Live: Heavy duty weekend, Bette Midler at MSG, Maxi Priest at Summerstage and all topped off by Morrissey and Blondie -Stephen it was really nothing. No really, really. Glastonbury looked like fun for all.

Death: The great actor Dick Van Patten, a wonder as the patriarch Tom Braden on “Eight Is Enough”, and very funny as part of the Mel Brooks staple, left us, as did Yes bassist Chris Squire.

Recorded: I’ve never much cared for Tyga but his new album The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty is pretty darn good, plus first albums by indie poppers from  the US Bully and the UK Wolf Alice delivered on their promise.

Sports: You’ve heard of rebuilding for tomorrow? The Knicks are rebuilding for never. Meanwhile, the Yanks are half a game out of first.

Crime: And punishment, David Sweat was captured two miles from the Canadian border and Richard Matt was shot dead, thus ends the great escape that apparently took half of New York States Police Force on a wild trip for three weeks.
