Sports: The US gave Japan a spectacular drubbing in the FIFA Women’s World Finals, four goals in the first 16 minutes. A spectacular win and revenge for 2011 (not to mention Pearl Harbor), Carli Lloyd’s hat trick, three goals before the game had even kicked into gear was too much for Japan to come back from. The Yanks still in first place (by one game!)
Live: The three hour plus farewell to the Dead at Soldier’s Field, 20 years after Jerry Garcia performed his final show their, was exactly what you’d hoped for: 70,000 Deadheads and a Cadillac.
Recorded: A great week for new releases but it is over now. Neil Young, Vince Staples and Miguel took the honor, and, lest we forget, Dan Svizeny a buzzed out star.
July 4th: Lil Wayne disappointed and it did a lot of drizzling. I wrote a lot.
Death: Julie Burchill Raven’s son Jack Landesman killed himself at the age of 29 -a devastating hit for all concerned and one which finds Julie in mourning but also perhaps her finest moment. The Irish easy listening crooner Val Doonican died at the age of 88.
Bankruptcy: You can’t spend what you don’t have. Something both Greece and myself have extreme problems figuring out. Meanwhile, controversy surrounds Germany never paying back their WWII debt to Greece. Now might be a good time.
