The documentary about Kings Of Leon, ‘Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon’ which premiered at the Tribeca festival last spring, will make its debut on TV, as it is scheduled on Showtime next August 21st .
According to NME, the film takes you into the KOL’s deep psyche, telling the intimate story of the Followill family, exploring their roots in the American Midwest. This is an excerpt of the NME review:
‘The first third of the film in particular is like an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies as Mitchell introduces an extended group of friends of family who still live in Oklahoma and either dress in dungarees, drink moonshine or talk like Boomhauer in King Of The Hill.
The band talks frankly about an eyebrow-raising upbringing, traveling across the heart of America with their Pentecostalist preacher father. Between memories of singing gospel, speaking in tongues and living in abject poverty in the name of the lord, it’s nice to hear that the Followill brothers did occasionally find time to have some fun.’
To go to the essential, they were poor, had a God-freak preacher for father, but they chose secular music, and actually made it. They are now playing arenas, and their rise to fame made them choose a life of sins according to their upbringing, something they are still struggle with because of the way they were raised! Poor guys, this must be a torture…
Most reviews are positive for this rock doc directed by Stephen C. Mitchell, the title is the Oklahoma town where the rockers attend an annual family reunion…. So they haven’t really rebelled against their family? Because when I think Kings of Leon, I think rebellious rock’ n ‘ roll… Watch the trailer here
