Sure, you know Sam Smith through Disclosure’s “Latch” but if that’s not enough? The man has soul to burn and if you don’t believe me listen to the Londoner’s Nirvana EP or ask Taylor Swift who invited him to sing at her O2 gig ir best of all, check out Monday’s gig at Webster Hall. Sold out, of course.
Why are the singles charts in the UK so much better than their album charts? Jess Glynne is back with a Chicago House DJ Route 94 (geddit) and is excellent, which gives her two great songs on these charts neither of which have hit the US yet. But they will!
All modern dance, all the time. Real simple, only A Great Big World doesn’t fit the EDM profile one oh one. Mostly soul, some hip hop, some House, all electronic, all DJ whatever the name on the package might say. And remarkably strong.
On second thoughts, maybe the David Crosby album is really pretty good. It always takes forever for Crosby songs to click into your earwaves but when they do they are sometimes worth the wait. Another album I may very well have underestimated? Drowners. I just wish the rhythm section was better.
Where have All the Flowers Gone – Pete Seeger – A circular story of dead young men and mourning young girls, and where all the flowers anyway? They’re on the young men’s graves. And in this a capella song, the yearning for a lesson to be learnt has an edge of threat to it – A+
