(You Make Me Feel) Mighty Real – Frankie Knuckles Directors Cut – This is the exact diving line between disco and House, Sylvester’s greatest disco song of all time is given a nine minute blow out, the beat is all over it but essentially Knuckles takes the title hook and loops it and loops it and loops it – A+
They’ve been touring on and off since the excellent 13 was released last year and this is about as big a concert as they are gonna get. I missed out on years of Ozzyfest because I couldn’t be bothered hitching to the swamps of New Jersey. But the swamps of Brooklyn , Monday at Barclay Center? That I can do.
So right now I am debating whether to scalp a tix to Perfect Pussy next Saturday or not bother or go to sleep or… any way here is some more upcoming releases. Knock yourself out but don’t turn on the ignition while you’re doing it:
Fire Away – Skrillex – Very laid back for dance, rather than fire away it moves around a skittish drum pattern into waves of moogie distraughtness and straight up notes on a piano. We had a word for this when I was growing up, dubstep – C+
Coming Of Age – Foster The People – This song makes a promise the album couldn’t keep, but this heavy textured beat and strong melodic mood seemed as though the band could move forward from “Pumpked Up Kicks” into a post-modern indie hybrid sound – A-
Let’s forget about Skrillex since I’m far from convinced even if you are certain, and let’s look a little further and study a whole lotta bands with important follow ups: The War On Drugs, The Pretty Reckless, the very buzzy and brilliant Coathangers (even if I wasn’t thrilled by em on stage), TBS, newcomers Perfect Pussy and let’s rest on The Both because it is the new Aimee Mann album and Ted Leo might not be in HER league but he is still in a league.
WHERE she even got the blood from?! Did she collect it over a period of time? Did she collect drops from paper cuts and scratches? It’s disturbing and repulsive. (Upon further reading…not for the faint of heart…it was in fact her menstrual blood. What..The..Actual..F…?)
