I am not claiming she had to perform if she wasn’t well enough to perform, I am claiming she needed to give an account of herself. I wish Prass a long and healthy career, but if she ever isn’t healthy, I wish her the good manners to explain herself properly.
Natalie Prass may be just another Twenty Feet from Stardom overeaching back up singer, her debut album hasn’t stuck and her voice is a little light and a little strange. but the uniqueness works to her favor, and the reason why she hasn’t stuck is because her songs are lush and quirky and lush at the same. The verdict is out till Monday at the Bowery Ballroom.
After reading Pitchfork’s ” She crafts slow-burning soul music indebted to singers like Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield, and Jenny Lewis…” I was gagging to unload on this sucker but the songs are excellent and her voice is beautiful. It is like indie country plus odd instruments and her falsetto
It isn’t Joni’s fault this became a huge fucking cliche, it is everybody else’s faults. Including “moody quirky” Alva, and Jenny Lewis back up I’m ready for my close up Mr. DeMille Natalie Prass. Sure, a cliche and a half. Still, the voices are pretty amazing – B+
