The entire enterprise is smug, profoundly pretentious, and so self-conscious that half way through it I thought I was listening to Ryan Adams. It is a the sort of album Kim Gordon would claim “this focused, brilliantly clear and seemingly candid record is a breath of fresh air.” It is only a breath of fresh air if you come from smog filled L.A.

I have a bad feeling about the Ryan Adams album, I just do. I don’t much like the “Bad Blood” single and it seems like, I dunno, what is there to say? Meanwhile, I wanna know why Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have chosen to change their name to something even worse, the platinigeously stupid Jr Jr. I can’t take New Order at any price and three years after I saw him open for Madonna, Avicii, who makes Justin Bieber look like Little Lord Faulteroy, still has exactly one great song to his name. I am not a Los Lobos fan… ok, ok, so what looks good? Fetty Wap maybe, but I am going with Kurt Vile just because I am blown away by “Life Like This”.

In which Kurt expands his horizon into MOR old school rock, with a piano motif up close and personal, and I hated it yesterday but I think I missed it because I was expecting something completely different. This is a beautiful and strange rhythmic hook, it is like there are two beats and one falls off and discombobulates the song and neither rests with the drums- B+
