All his songs were a rare beauty, seductive and meandrous, taking some sophisticated and surprising detours, embracing a sort of lost Americana with big skies in the desert and a romantic flair going almost south-of-the-border, without embracing any obvious genre.

Good old nostalgia? Definitively! Plus DeRosa’s dark baritone immediately gave me a very strong Stephin Merritt vibe and it was definitively not a surprise to read that DeRosa had collaborated with Merritt and that his long time collaborator and producer Charles Newman had worked with the Magnetic Fields
