this is the blandest of bland charts, there is nothing, not even the Tay remix, that isn’t product and not great product either. Maybe, MAYBE Lunchbox Lewis is the real thing, MAYBE Omi, but everything else here is way too manufactured even for a manufactured cult.
Singing with his pecs, the Flo Rida resident has recorded one great song, “Trumpets” and lotsa mediocre pop moves, while truly sucking bad on stage. “Want To Want Me” is ordinary but the proof is in the sales,w hich is kinda like bouncing a quarter off his stomach and seeing where he falls.
Hell, this is so weird, things take forever to move on the Singles charts, and for the second week there is precisely one new song and two changes in position with “Happy” dropping out and “Maps” dropping in and i have admitted in public before that I like Adam Levine, and this is as good a Police update as you’ll hear. But the dye job, Ada? It has to go.
Country Song – Happy Mondays – Originally called “Some Cunt from Preston” and not much of a shocker why the they changed its name, the Madchester monster band sounds ahead of its time even today: a blues beater with heavy heavy beats – A
Z – SZA – New r&b gets it right for once; temperate but crazed, sexual mood music by SZA,with the obligato rap added by the likes of Chance The Rapper who exactly captures the mood of hazed out sex; pure seduction and she doesn’t even know if she wants you.
Again, not the worst singles chart I’ve ever seen. The Azalea song is a real keeper and one I’d have missed if it wasn’t on the charts, proof positive that our fate lies not in the charts but in ourselves. I bet you wish you’d thought it up. Me? I wish it meant something.
That run from DJ Snake to the end is the best I’ve seen in months and months and months, all of it is good and Timberlake’s “Not A Bad Thing” is one of his greatest moments ever. As pure and as perfect a pop song as you will ever hear plus? It isn’t connected at the hips with a dog as it is on the album
I am enough of a pop fan to give big props to DeRulo and Pharrell, two of the best albums of the years may only have girls on the mind but who doesn’t only have girls on the mind and if all you want is to give props to the playas, do it this well and you’ll get no kick from me.
Not one new entry in the top ten and the top seven are THE SAME AS LAST WEEK and except for Lil Jon and Onerepublica trading places, this is the exact same as last week!!!! BUT coming up soon, as I predicted the minute it was released, Ed Sheeran’s “Sing” will be rocking the charts all summer. Be afraid.
I am going to go with Jason DeRulo even though I wasn’t thrilled by his performance at Jingle Ball because whatever you want to say about him being a pop manufacturer, he is a hit machine and a good one.
The top four are exactly the same as last week, and the following six are minimal changes and NOTHING NEW made it on AND… Oh, I guess that’s all I got.Proof that the US Hot 100 is the most conservative and reactionary charts in the history of the world. FYI
Not much going on for another week, though I note we haven’t seen a thing for Gaga in awhile and meanwhile Katy Perry is in at # 1!! Lorde has her second hit and I suggest they do the right thing and release “Swingin’ Party” and make Paul some more bucks.
Woooooah! This is a great chart. From Clean Bandit to Jason De Rulo all you have to do is skip Vamps and Avicii and you can listen to the lot with immense pleasures. Even the Will I Am which kinda past me by last year (blame Hardeep Phul’s slam effecting my decision making abilities) sounds great on the char
Maybe I underestimated the Avicii track, the instrumental bridge is pretty good. I wonder why “Happy” got a second life? That one take video of a woman dancing to it? Maybe??? Otherwise, everything is still place and we wait for the rest of our lives to begin!!
A blip upwards this week at least because of Jason’s awesome ballad “Trumpets” and goes a long way to saving a short ripping, acrobat dancing, background taping loud mess at Jingle Ball! Looks like clear sailing for Lily’s song of Christmas
Last time I looked I was interviewing a musician signed to Saddle Creek next week, so let’s send some love to Tim Kasher of Cursive whose last solo album was pretty good. But any week Sleigh Bells release a new album must belong to Sleigh Bells.
I wonder, will Jessie J, once it is released Stateside, kill us here and put her into Ellie Goulding territory, a place I always figured she should be.
Two killer songs here, the new Jessie J and the new to me Ben Pearce. Compare this to the US charts and what do you notice? None of those lousy fake cowboys from Australia and therfore a much much better chart.
The horror, the horror. Jason Derulo is pretty good but Christina Perri is unbearable, I had to turn her moldy old ballad off, And what of Avicii and One Republic, two terrible terrible, no actually, that implies a passion I can’t hear, two dull as dishwater performers
