slow week for big shows, but the indie scene is booming
I have seen all these bands this year with a few exceptions

I managed to see a few bands during the afternoon
The art project will transform common utility boxes into works of art starting Friday with paintings featuring many local bands
But most of my day was occupied with all these 60’s revival surf-rock-worshiper bands, and they keep multiplying with more nuances than I can describe. Most of them played with a punk spirit and a personal twist each time, but as I said, they duplicate themselves at infinity.
The quintet tells us that psychedelia is back with a vengeance although I don’t think it was ever gone looking at the abundance of LA bands that currently cultivates the genre… However Drinking Flowers bring its own drone and unique twist on psychedelia
Corners is a band that I had the pleasure to see a few times before, I saw them first during a Monday residency in April, then at Lolipalooza, and I had immediately noticed their invigorating sound, a sound which was so familiar and new at the same time. So, I was not surprised to learn that the quartet had a July residency at the Echo, and I may actually go to a few of them
At the Bootleg on the 4th, an all-evening-long psych fest, bringing a dozen of psychedelic bands on two different stages. Since I don’t really like following traditions, I went to the Warlocks’ Smokeout, and spent more than 5 hours inside the darkest club in LA, while having a great time
This new Lolipalooza event had 33 bands playing on three stages in just one afternoon-evening, I managed to see 29 of them, and it felt like a marathon! Yes, I am exhausted today, it was a bit crazy and way too much for the same day, but it’s always the case for festivals. There is no way I am gonna remember what the first or even the 15th band sounded like but who really cares?
Immediately, the tone of the evening was given, a very psychedelic ambiance with a lot of fuzziness, yes, dark and dense layers of fuzz wrapped around reverb and drone, filled up the place
