Here is further proof with the great Charli XCX’s cover of “Shake It Off” where she just about maitains the melody but speeds it way up and let’s it evolve into a beats heavy remix, punk by nature but not be birth, it is like the Ramones meet Morodor meets Joan Jett circa her poppy rocky “I Love Rock N Roll” Best

Meet the new week, same as the old week. I guess the shocker here, if it can be called a shocker any more, is how completely dominated this chart is by women. Six of the top seven positions, seven of the top ten, everywhere you turn, women! Also: pop women, not soul, not rock, but the modern form of pure pop for nw women is completely dominated by women.

I’ve been kinda impressed by the Top Ten Singles in the US, nothing here is an insult to my ears, and significantly,most of it is top drawed modern pop music; there is so much to admire here. Plus, Ariana, Charli XCX and Iggy all are stars shining bright right now, and they all have hits and they all overlap!

Magic continue to rule the world and here they are at # 1 in the UK, I hope the band are having a blast. Plus, while I feel like a bully picking on a coupla of teens, namely Bars and Melody off Britain’s Got Talent, this is so terrible it should be sold with a government label.

This is as lame as the UK charts have been all, all dance pop more or less all the time, it lacks any change of paste (ok, “Budapest” but otherwise?), when heard like this it feels like extremely manufactured and derivative pop pap, which it is. I meant without the fun.
