Charli XCX Covers Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”

By Iman Lababedi | February 11, 2015

Here is further proof with the great Charli XCX’s cover of “Shake It Off” where she just about maitains the melody but speeds it way up and let’s it evolve into a beats heavy remix, punk by nature but not be birth, it is like the Ramones meet Morodor meets Joan Jett circa her poppy rocky “I Love Rock N Roll” Best

Not With The Band: Which Band Of Today Will Be Relevant In 10 Or 20 Years?

By Alyson Camus | January 5, 2015

Today, there is certainly a lot of mediocrity, any American Idol, X Factor product is an example for me! But at the same time, there is a lot of excellent music, it is just harder to find it because of the enormous amount of bands formed every year and songs released each day!

US Top 10 Singles 9-27-14

Meet the new week, same as the old week. I guess the shocker here, if it can be called a shocker any more, is how completely dominated this chart is by women. Six of the top seven positions, seven of the top ten, everywhere you turn, women! Also: pop women, not soul, not rock, but the modern form of pure pop for nw women is completely dominated by women.

US Top 10 Singles 8-23-14

By Iman Lababedi | August 14, 2014

I’ve been kinda impressed by the Top Ten Singles in the US, nothing here is an insult to my ears, and significantly, most of it is top drawed modern pop music; there is so much to admire here. Plus, Ariana, Charli XCX and Iggy all are stars shining bright right now, and they all have hits and they all overlap!

UK Top 10 Singles 8-9-14

By Iman Lababedi | August 4, 2014

Magic continue to rule the world and here they are at # 1 in the UK, I hope the band are having a blast. Plus, while I feel like a bully picking on a coupla of teens, namely Bars and Melody off Britain’s Got Talent, this is so terrible it should be sold with a government label.

UK Top 10 Singles 8-2-14

By Iman Lababedi | July 28, 2014

This is as lame as the UK charts have been all, all dance pop more or less all the time, it lacks any change of paste (ok, “Budapest” but otherwise?), when heard like this it feels like extremely manufactured and derivative pop pap, which it is. I meant without the fun.

US Top 10 Singles, 6-14-14

By Iman Lababedi | June 5, 2014

annnnnnndddddd…. they’re off. Looks like another summer of chicks: Iggy, Ariana and Charlie XCX leading the charge for the song of the summer. I thought Calvin had a chance but on second thought “Summer” isn’t quite sleek enough.

West Coast – Lana Del Rey – You know Lana believes this to be the Summer Blockbuster movie of singles with extended lyrical breaks, tempo changes and way too high in the mix drums. And she may be right – B-
