It Is What It Is – Blood Orange – I saw him perform this on Jimmy Kimmel with Samatha Urbani, his Friend girlfriend, and they kicked it hard but it is a terrific fuzz sound wall of soul – B+

“In every critique of Twin Shadow, there is a dropping of Morrissey’s name, which I always thought was funny because I have never really been a huge fan of Morrissey or the Smiths. [Laughs] So it’s a nod to people calling me “the Dominican Morrissey”
Sweet Home Chicago – Freddie King – This guitar sound is so heavy it sounds like a supple bass or a rhythm guitar turned to 11, and the notes bend around the melody in a sledgehammer precursor to metal – A
Blood Orange recently released the excellent, like top ten maybe of 2013, Cupid Deluxe and on a purely subjective basis, I am hoping the guy has improved on stage. Indeed, I am betting on it. A definite must see.
The Book Of Love – The Magnetic Fields – From their greatest album 69 Love Songs, this is a flat out masterpiece but the singing is a little iffy – A
This was Kanye West’s week, he played four nights, I saw him twice and he was the epitome of artistic integrity and musical mayhem; an astounding statement defining musical and racial freedom in 2013.
Hush – Eliza Doolittle – Not the keeper on the new album but still pretty damn good, a lovely, frustrated ballad – B+
Jake Bugg’s “Shangri La”, produced by Rick Rubin, has a lot of buzz and with Chris Brown delaying the release of X not much else worth bothering about (or do you like Daughtry?) gets the nod
Sutphin Boulevard – Blood Orange – Devonté Hynes poppiest moment from two years ago sounds as fresh today as we eagerly await Cupid Deluxe which maybe I should have made my sneak peak of the week elsewhere – A-
