Last week a couple of dozen huge and fully grown men graduated from college to the NFL, where they will make millions for a couple of years and let’s hope they save up for a rainy day. If they don’t they will always have the NFL Draft where Mr. Johnny Football got drafted 22nd and Jadeveon Clowney got drafter first and Ha Ha Clinton Dix 21st , thereby giving Jimmy Fallon jokes for years to come.
A chick soul singer from Australia, a chick pop singer from Sweden, Pharrell, Lengen and Aloe, and the rest is bass and drums.
Less movement on the UK album charts than the hyper kinetic US but the real question is will the will we get this literally last in a lifetime opportunity to see the duo perform together. If the video of their performance is anything to go by, it will be the show of the year if they do.
Meet the new chart same as the old chart. Well, at least Aloe Blacc is doing well. Plus you wanna see devolution in action? from “Get Lucky” to “Blurred Lines” to “Happy” (to” Sing” -but it will be a coupla weeks till that one shows). There is devolution in action.
Take a look at # 4, John Martin. An EDM songwriter from Sweden who has worked with the likes of Swedish House Mafia and Tinie Tempeh before hitting it big with SHM’s “Don’t You Worry Child”. Both “Child” and “Anywhere For You” are EDM by name, they sound like MOR 21st century style.
We appear to be in a period of extended mediocrity within the upper reaches of the charts. The album charts are so volatile it has no middle ground any more. In 2011 albums were staying in the top ten for months on end, today the album charts reflect something at all. Meanwhile, the single charts are so conservative and static they seem set in stone. Nothing on this list is good enough. It is a dreadful disappointment
I don’t think much of the brooding Soko’s sound, the French chanteuse has a brooding presence but not musch more. But the vdeo? A collaboration between Soko and Wren “a women’s wear brand” called “First Kiss” is awesome and sexy even if it is manufactured.
The album charts are so volatile it is like an earthquake. Yet again, six of these albums are new to the charts, it is like they just explode into outer space of sound. Whooomp. all all the charts, whooomp gone again. I have never seen the charts like this before.
As a long time Elbow sneerer please allow me to eat my words as this superbly melancholic and astune album of love’s labors losts will undoubtedly repay close listening with a crying jag. Imagine the National meets Radiohead, now subtract the whimsy – ALBUM OF THE WEEK – A-
Chuck D wants a national holiday for MLK and will win this one: “Talking MLK, gonna find a way Make the state pay, I’m looking for the day” from 2002 and still an accurate reminder why Hip Hops golden age is over because that should be enough for any song except PE were going after the anti-immigrant Arizona bill as well – A-
