"Surf the Musical," Beach Boys Hit Las Vegas

You cant go ten feet without a new musical opening.  This time riding high on the Beach Boy reunion wave we have Las Vegas opening a stage to "Surf the Musical," based upon 'California Girls', "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "I Get Around", why just those tunes is beyond me but that's the buzz.

Opening at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino with a week of preview performances beginning on June 11 and an official opening night of July 17.

The play will offer audiences "a carefree story of good vibrations set in the nostalgic, happy times of the 1960s Southern California beach community," according to Surf Productions LLC."We want to capture the essence of what made the music great," they said of the production.

"Surf the Musical" will run nightly except for Thursdays.

The Beach Boys' music has inspired a stage show before, and it tanked. The Broadway production "Good Vibrations" had a brief run at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, playing from February to April 2005.  Three months but there were no slots and flowing booze at The Eugene.  Seems to me Vegas can sell any show- just soak it in bourbon and douse it in glitter.. boom a roaring hit.  I mean seriously how long has Celine Dion held court over there?
