Sunshine Superman by Alyson Camus

Only Ray of Sunshine’ is the opening track of Storage, the new album of Wesley Wolfe, dropping on Tuesday on Odessa Record. I had never heard of him before and I wonder how many songwriters like him are writing good songs without getting any national attention. Of course, I think it can always change.

After moving from Florida to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 2002, he has played with a few bands and made his first album ‘Dump Children.’ A talented multi-instrumentalist, Wesley has recorded his only official album ‘Storage’ mainly at his home.

‘Ray of sunshine’ is a very short but lovely song dominated by riffs on acoustic guitar with a direct delivery and a catchy tune. It could remind you a few great names in music, although it is difficult to say exactly whom. May be Death Cab for Cutie? the Smiths? I am not sure and I would have to listen to more of his work to get an idea.

The upbeat tune is there to make you feel good despite the downer feeling of the lyrics. But there is still hope, and it is not clear if it is love or friendship, but in this world of bad luck and hardship, someone can nevertheless compensate for everything else and be your ray of sunshine.
