Stuck On A Talk Show And I Can’t Get Out Of It

Was it me who said Costello was a hasbeen, Spectacle a bore and U2 the antichrist? Er, yup that would be me. BUT as I am sure you have figured out by now I change my mind from time to time. And the episode of Spectacle with Bono and the Edge was spectacular.
Sure, it would be self-serving here and there but if only for Costello’s verses on “Stuck In A Moment And You Can’t Get Out Of It” the show is worth seeing.
Just as good is an hysterical anecdote told by Bono about McCartney visiting U2 while U2 were recording. I’m gonna paraphrase Bono paraphrasing Paulie: “We used to come in the side entrance and nine, play the songs for George nd Ringo, lay down the backing tracks, have lunch, work another three hours and complete the songs. Then go out on the town.”. Bono says he turned to the other members of the band and suggested they do the same thing. “I know the Edge,” Bono said, “And there was no way he was gonna be there by 9am, so I said we’d start at noon, play till seven, and if we needed to do a little extra we could do it then. Everybody thought it was a good idea. The First Day? We recorded till 4am”.
