Acapella is sorta tricky. Theres a fine line between cool sounding and sort of annoying. Example, Bobby McFerrins " Don't Worry, Be Happy". I'm not ashamed to say I nearly slashed my jugular to that one. God help me.
Straight No Chaser look like the Yale Whiffepoofs or whatever. A bunch of suited clean cuts gulping and gung'ing and oh how the people love it. I suppose there is a great talent here. Figure Doo Wop street corner singing may have been the parent of this, I hope. But that was then and this is now. The 50s were a great time for accapella love songs. 2011?
Well, surprisingly there is an audience.
Straight No Chaser is the big crowd pleaser in this very niche' genre. I personally know a girl who thinks these guys are amazing. I would prefer to live out my days having never to hear their version of "Wonderwall" ever again.
But hey everyone ain't me so SNC is touring. Gather round and check the dates:
