I was hoping they’d make it through Sunday when I had tix but it wasn’t to be. I would’ve loved to have seen this, not because I wanted to watch people hurt, and not because I thought it would be good, but because I wanted to hear just how bad the Bono score would’ve been.
U2 won’t be hurt by this but Julie Taymor, a true artist, will be devastated.
Here is the moral: if you are gonna produce Spiderman on Broadway get Disney to control Taymor.
How bad was it? Pretty terrible but savable. The book and the music a mess, how can you survive that? The look, just the bits on 60 minutes, were magnificent.
I hope they manage to put it back up.
Great art entails great risks, this was a great, great risk, but if you are gonna lose 68M, better here than bailing out fat cats on Wall Street.
