I love Panic! At The Disco.

I love Spencer Smith the chubby faced drummer who has braved it all with Brenden Urie.  And I am motherly proud of him for jumping off the world tour with the band to take care of himself.  Panic began so young.  They weren’t even legal when ‘A Fever You Cant Sweat Out’ was released.

In a long statement Spencer came clean about his year and a half hardcore addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs.   Saying he felt better with it in the open and in speaking with MTv pre tour stated : “Coming into it I feel really positive about where I’m at, but I can’t know every situation I’m going to be in on tour. I’m going to be in hotel rooms where there’s alcohol readily available,” he said. “But I’m lucky to be in a band that isn’t Guns N’ Roses or something; it’s a great thing to not have to feel like I’m having to alter everybody else’s life so that I can fit in. That’s something I didn’t want to do.”

But it didn’t work.  Just a few shows in and Spencer has opted out.  That takes such courage, its nearly inspirational. I was lucky enough to hear Panic! in Boston on their very first show and they are fabulous.  Spencer was top notch and understanding limitations is incredible and proof that ‘rock star’ hasn’t gone to his head.  He needs to work on himself cuz there is a whole lot of life after drumming.

I’m feeling pretty confident he will be back at some point.  Just too smart and well planned for a complete disappear.  We wish him the best as he fixes himself and we welcome his replacement ( but only temporarily cuz I really would like to see him back with Urie)
