I'm not sure if " Something About Jesus" is categorically 'gospel'. But I can tell you to the unfamiliar ear it sounds as suchNot a fan.
Not of the message that's pretty cool but its the grunting note scream that just shuts me down like a noodle bar in little Italy. It's taxing it's annoying it's the 'shut the fuck up already' that makes me hit the mute button.
The Choral backing is very pretty the grunting groaning and squealing of the primaries pretty much made me want to burn my eyes out with a Holy candle.
I believe these people are overwhelmed with the power of God. They're making joyful noise. They are killing me one note at a time. At this point I don't even care what they're message is. Shut the fuck up and quit screaming. This conjures up images of sweat polyester preacher men I encountered during my life in the South and it ain't winning me over in any form.
Its a bit sacrilegious in my opinion to hate music that is another persons prayer. Its similar to walking in to Church and going eww.. yuck.
But I don't have to listen to it but I was asked my opinion of it. The ending bars make me think Mr Franklin has been corralled with a prod.
Personally I think God must be thinking 'ok OK OK enough already you're killing me and I'm immortal'.
This music will move some people, bring them to their knees and fill them with joy. This certainly brought me to my knees but only to hit the power bar for my speakers. I couldnt tolerate it.
On the flip side and to be a bit less negative some Gospel music live, in a proper setting can be quite empowering and uplifting.
On a shitty cold day when everything I touch is fucked up its like a slap of Disneyland upside the head. No thanks, Next.
