Sleigh Bells “Comeback Kid”, Reviewed

A friend of mine recently suggested I listen to the fairly new band Sleigh Bells and I decided, as I often do, to listen to their latest single which is, in this case, “Comeback Kid”. I heard this band described as having a sound that seemed like the love child of MGMT and Shiny Toy Guns.  Play “Electric Feel” by MGMT at the same time as “Le Disko” by Shiny Toy Guns and you’d get a song combination that sounds similar to Sleigh Bells’ new single “Comeback Kid”.

This is not to say that “Comeback Kid” is in any way a bad song. In fact, I would say it’s better than any song by MGMT or Shiny ToyGuns. Guitarist Derek Miller gives the song an intense drive that gives rise to a natural bobbing of the head every time I listen to the song.

I absolutely love the beginning of the song because of the way a simple beat breaks down into a mind scrambling guitar progression as vocalist Alexis Krauss’ voice weaves between the beautifully distorted guitar riffs. Changes in the dynamic levels of Alexis’ voice have you noticing that you don’t know what exactly it is that she’s crooning at you but you couldn’t care in the slightest because of how enveloped in the song you become.

Keep an eye out for Sleigh Bells’ new album, Reign of Terror, which is currently set to be released on February 21st of 2012. Support this fantastic duo by purchasing “Comeback Kid” on iTunes and I promise you will not regret it.
