The Simpsons is a true rocking cartoon series, and so many rock stars have appeared in the show, that I have lost count. Let’s see, in no particular order, 50 cent, the Who, Greenday. Aerosmith, Blink 182, Flight of the concords, the Dixie Chicks, Elton John, Kid Rock, The White Stripes, Metallica, New Kids on the Block, Paul McCartney, Tom Jones Pink, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Coldplay, Sonic Youth, U2, The Ramones, The Smashing Pumpkins…
Remember when Homer won the lottery and goes to see Coldplay in a private arena? Or when he walks on stage in the middle of a U2 concert?
Homer, as the lazy loveable guy, the overweight naïve loser, is always ready for a party of course, and has met the crème de la crème of the rock world.
In an episode, Homer believes he only has four years to live, he and his family visit Florida, and he joins the kids on Spring Break crashing a Kid Rock concert.
When he converts his garage into a new tavern for himself and his friends, it is a success and has even the rock band R.E.M. soon playing.
In another episode, Homer has this latent dream of being a rock star, and his family takes him to a Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy Camp, run by The Rolling Stones where he gets to meet and play with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Lenny Kravitz, Tom Petty, and Brian Setzer.
When he gets depressed, he wants to become cool again by joining the “Hullabalooza” music festival as a carnival freak, and no less than Peter Frampton, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill and Sonic Youth appear in the show.
The best bands have played in the series, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have performed on Krusty the clown’s show, the Ramones have played at Mr. Burns’ Birthday, Elton John has been able to perform a concert for Apu saving his marriage, Aerosmith has made Moe’s tavern their official hang out, the Who were tricked by Homer to play into the New Springfield to make Springfield jealous, Michael Jackson as a delusional man who believes he is Michael Jackson. and Greenday has been in the Simpsons movie, playing the Simpsons’ theme in a summer concert series, on a sinking stage.
But my favorite episode has to be when Lisa decides to become vegetarian and finds some help with Linda and Paul McCartney,… but I must have forgotten tons of them!
