If you are a Sex Pistols fan, you have to watch this: ‘Sid! By Those who really knew him’ is a 80-minute documentary about Sid Vicious, recently posted on Youtube, and the film is said to be the first, intimate full-length documentary on the punk rocker’s life, released to mark his death 30-year anniversary.
Vicious died at 21 years old from a heroin overdose after apparently murdering his girlfriend, and ‘Sid's short and controversial life with The Sex Pistols and Nancy Spungen is profiled with new interviews from Jah Wobble, Steve Severin, Vivien Westwood, Malcolm McClaren, Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies, Marco Pironi, Viv Albertine, and many others who actually knew Sid.’
I can’t believe how many times his friends describe him as ‘beautiful’ with a James Dean image, before he became the face of punk. Nevertheless, there is nothing romanticized about his character, which ended believing it was good to be violent, and was deliberately hurting himself. And Nancy? Depending on the people who are interviewed, she was beautiful and okay or some awful white trash.
