Just awhile ago I reported that John Lennons tooth was up for auction. What I didn’t report was that it fetched $32k. Interestingly enough it was purchased by a Canadian dentist.
Wait the story gets more odd after the purchase. A portion of that same tooth has been embedded in a sculpture. Dr Michael Zuk (known as the Crazy Dentist) has a sister Kirsten who is a rather accomplished sculptress. She took a bit of that tooth, incorporated it into her piece and now touts it as in possesion of Lennons DNA. She is charging people to view this with proceeds going to ‘Smile Train’ a childrens chairty offering dental care and surgeny for cleft lip and palate issues (doesn’t Canada have national health?)
'John Lennon gave his tooth to a fan in good spirit so I wanted to do a few things that would raise awareness of the charity Smile Train, so we are asking people that come to view the sculpture at the Kirsten's Art Show this weekend in Edmonton to consider making a donation which helps children with cleft lip and palate.,' says Dr. Michael Zuk. He adds, 'The house that Lennon lived in when he had the tooth removed just came up for sale at a reported 15M British pounds, so anything Lennon is almost priceless'.
Dr Zuk is the author of the book 'John Lennon Tooth'. I have not had the opportunity to read this book but the title alone is pretty intriguing. Is it a story of the acquisition of said tooth or an account of the tooth’s life? Odd folks, indeed.
