We The Kings are an alternative pop band that has never really impressed me. Too much competition and no 'edge' to make them stand out in a crowd. This is actually a band that I often forget exists and when I do think of them I always figured they're no longer together.
The acoustic Never Shout Never sounding intro made me think that I was doomed. But what happened is it opened up to a straight up simplistic pop song. The lyrics more spoken then sung can really pluck a teenaged heart.
I was engaged for about 2 min. See, the problem with this band is they never have a hook. There is nothing that sets them apart from the next guy and if you were to put this on your iPod shuffle, you'd forget it was even there. Not because its terrible, but because its bland and flavorless.
In the world of alternative pop its important to have one of a few things at least. A really gorgeous singer (Mayday Parade, All Time Low), an incredible drummer (Forever The Sickest Kids) a great sing along (3oh!3) Anarbor) but if you have none of these things your destiny is just filling valuable iPod memory space.
I'd really love to like WTK, but theres been no reason since "Check Yes Juliette", sorry
