For over a year now on Saturday nights Iman and I write about the musical guest on SNL. I can honestly say there has been about 3 good performances and some of the crappiest bands of all time.
This got me thinking, why do I remember so much fabulousness with the infamous 'musical guest'? I mean I recall 'staying up' just to see the guest. Who was it that made me do so?
Upon some investigation the bands are insane and this is just a sample
Season 1- Gil Scott Heron, Loudon Wainwright III, Patti Smith and Desi Arnaz!
Season 2- The Kinks, The Band, Frank Zappa
Season 3- Elvis Costello, Sun Ra, Randy Newman
Season 4- The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead, Billy Joel
Season 5- The Specials The B52's, Gary Numan
Season 6- Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Cliff, Cheap Trick
Season 7- The Go Gos, Sparks, Billy Joel
Season 8- The Clash, Squeeze, The Bus Boys
Season 9- Stray Cats, Motels, Adam Ant
Season 10- sorta sucked
Season 11- Joe Jackson!
Season 12- The Pretenders, Debbie Harry
Season 13- Sting, Bryan Ferry
Season 14- Larger Elvis Costello
Season 15- Harry Connick, The Pogues
That's just half way. So tell me why on Earth the bands suck so much now? It's not that there is no good music. There is tons of it. SNL sucks and their musical choices are as safe and bland as the skits they now perform.
