At rock nyc we are fans of the Los Angeles cinematic-explosive band Saint Motel, as we have written about them numerous times. And A/J Jackson was nice enough to send us their new song!
‘At Least I Have Nothing’ is this half-contained half-explosive anthem, quite a contrast to their previous exotic ‘Puzzle Pieces’, but much more guitar driven, with a sing-along chorus not ready to leave your brain once you have listened to it.
The Los Angeles band will release their first vinyl 7”1 on November 28th (already available for preorder for only $7 on their website), including this new one and ‘Puzzle Pieces’, as well as a download card for both and some cool artwork.
A/J Jackson said this to explain the meaning of the new song:
‘I had just purchased a MIDI guitar – what we have deemed the 'Magic Guitar' – and I found this weird upright bass synth tone and starting forming the basis of the song with that. 'At Least I Have Nothing' was a lyric I had been thinking about a lot at that point.’
‘Like every Saint Motel song, the meaning is open to – and encouraged for – interpretation, 'At Least I Have Nothing' in some ways is a kind of fucked up look at the joys of being a struggling artist. A lot of the luxuries we strive for can at times weigh us down. In some ways, those who can't obtain a cell phone, an iPad, or even a home of their own, actually have something much more valuable… their freedom.’
