At Iman’s request, I went to Vacation Vinyl to buy one of these super rare limited-edition 7”s that Ryan Adams signed and dropped on Wednesday afternoon at the store.
Is it really a rare piece? Judge for yourself: the vinyl, which features two previously unreleased tracks ‘Empty Room’, with wife Mandy Moore on backing vocals, and ‘Nutshell’, a Alice in Chain’s cover, was only sold during his European tour last summer, and has never been available before in the US.
Ryan Adams gave only 40 copies to the store, and I was afraid none would be left. But there were still some, which will probably not last very long. Furthermore, Adams was doing this to support his favorite and neighborhood record store, as he said, and there was a sort of catch, and a good one for the store!
As Pete Majors (the store's buyer, manager and also the singer of black metal/hardcore punk band Harassor) reminded me, to be able to get a copy of Ryan Adams’ vinyl, customers have to buy an item of their choice from the Black Metal Section, one of Adams’ favorite genres (or may be his favorite, period) and to give the secret password indicated on Vacation Vinyl facebook page.
