Have you seen how far away Iman was from the stage during Ryan Adams’ performance at the Carnegie Hall? He said that the more intimate performances were probably better, well you can check by yourself.
The intimate solo performance of Ryan Adams recorded at Apogee Berkeley Street Studios in front of a live audience is now available on KCRW’s webpage, and you can watch Ryan perform acoustically songs from his new album ‘Ashes & Fire’, alone with his guitar and harmonica in front of a red curtain. I know too well that it is not the same thing than being there, but it is the closest view you can have of the intense singer, who was wearing a Metal-God Slayer t-shirt for the occasion
The show was recorded in front of only 150 people, taped for KCRW and Ryan started with a beautiful rendition of ‘Oh my Sweet Carolina’, and from start to finish you don’t hear a noise from the audience. He also plays ‘Ashes & Fire’, ‘Dirty Rain’, ‘My Winding Wheel’ from his 'Heartbreaker’ album or "Invisible Riverside’, 'Let it ride', 'Lucky Now' and 'Chains of Love' among others, and even digs into the Whiskeytown catalog.
Mid-concert, there also was a funny interview by Jason Bentley, during which Ryan talks about his passion for Black Metal, which led him to do some demonstrations. We also learn that he still types his lyrics on a real typewriter, because he has super ADD, and on the computer, there are too many other options… I can see that.
