What sucks is when your idols of the past turn out to be self rightious posers. Such is the case with Joan Jett and her lawsuit against Main Man Records. Jett claims the company did not have her 'ok' to use her name. I say 2000 cover bands dont either.
If this were a simple exploitatino recording ok maybe that would make sense but considering the procedes go to cancer research in the name of Sandy West. I understand the politics of 'the name' but what I cant understand is why a mutally acceptable move couldnt be made.
Honestly running off to the court with Cherrie Curry? Youre like 2 old busy bodies chasing kids off your lawn. Get over it. One things for sure, time has sucked the punk rock diy out of both of these senior sisters, and to think I once held them in such high regard.
I am lucky enough to have heard this 2 cd set and I will state for all to hear…….its a fuckload better than the original versions. The Donnas doing the title track "Queens of Noise", sounds modern and just as angsty as the 'original'. The adorable Shonen Knife (who are now working on a Ramones tribute oi vey), sound like zippy anime characters on Black Leather.
Fun…anyone remember fun?!
"Born To Be Bad" by The Toilet Boys,is really really good. Gorgeous vocals an I dont even know who this band is, but I will absolutely look them up. Richard Barone "Hollywood" is so glam its filthy…love love love it. This is actually more 70s feeling than the original as well. Maybe cuz it has that raw punk feel, not glossed up posturing past their prime. Let the children play. Clinical Trials totally nail "Dont Go Away" is disturbingly wonderful.
As an old school punker I know when its time to take a step back and let the next generation grab the stage. This production is done with class and tact and respectfully. So whats the worse part of the collection? The sound bites from the original Runaways. Guess its ok to make a tell all Hollywood movie about your past, thats good for a few bangs of botox, (actually that was damn fast to DVD come to think of it.)
Main Man will put the Runaways back on the map in two ways..exposing a younger audience to the greatness the Runaways WERE, which will get this youtube google generation to look up the band, and it will also bring Runaways noteriety for being such petty snobs.
I may have heard it.. but Im also going to buy it
