I haven’t liked anything Smashing Pumpkins released in the 00s, a shame because I was obsessed with them circa Melancholy.
But reading the much maligned (by Todd and by me) current issue of Rolling Stone, I came across a review of a new Billy number “A Song Fon A Son” dubbing it classic rock.
Haven’t heard classic rock in awhile so I downloaded it off smashingpumkins.com and guess what? His best song of the decade came late. It is an overblown SP special power ballad that’ll knock your socks off. “This is a song for star, this is a song for a space invader…” The nineties start here.
Oh, and Will Dana’s four star review of VE’s Contra in the same issue is excellent.
